🐾 Spay & Neuter Education

At CJ Rescue, we believe thatĀ spaying and neutering saves lives. Every year, millions of healthy, adoptable pets are euthanized in shelters across the country due to overpopulation. By spaying or neutering your pet, you're not only helping reduce this number—you're giving your pet a healthier, longer life.

Why Spay or Neuter?

1. Prevents Overpopulation
Just one unspayed female dog and her offspring can produce over 60,000 puppies in six years. For cats, it can be even more. Spaying and neutering are the most effective ways to prevent unwanted litters and reduce the number of animals entering shelters.

2. Health Benefits

  • Spayed femalesĀ have a reduced risk of uterine infections and breast cancer, which is fatal in about 50% of dogs and 90% of cats.

  • Neutered malesĀ have a lower risk of testicular cancer and prostate issues.

3. Behavioral Improvements

  • Neutered males are less likely to roam, mark territory with urine, or show aggression.

  • Spayed females won’t go into heat, which means no yowling, bleeding, or unwanted attention from male animals.

4. Cost-Effective
Preventing litters is much less expensive than caring for unexpected puppies or kittens—or treating preventable medical issues later in life.

When Should You Spay or Neuter?

Most pets can be safely spayed or neutered as early as 8 weeks old, but timing may vary based on breed, size, and health. Always consult your veterinarian to determine the best time for your pet.

šŸ’‰ Pet Vaccinations: Protecting Health & Saving Lives

At CJ Rescue, we’re committed to giving every pet a healthy start—and that begins withĀ vaccinations. Just like in humans, vaccines play a critical role in preventing disease, protecting not only your pet but also your family and community.

Why Are Vaccines Important?

Vaccines help your pet's immune system recognize and fight off deadly or contagious diseases before they take hold. Without vaccinations, pets are vulnerable to a range of illnesses—some of which areĀ fatal, painful, or costly to treat.

Vaccinations are especially important for:

  • Puppies and kittens, who are more susceptible to disease.

  • Pets coming from shelters or the streets, where exposure risk is higher.

  • Pets that interact with others at parks, grooming salons, boarding facilities, or vet clinics.

Core Vaccines for Dogs & Cats

🐶 Dogs (Core Vaccines)

  • DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza) – Protects against several highly contagious, life-threatening diseases.

  • Rabies – Required by law in most areas; protects against a deadly virus that can affect humans and animals.

  • Bordetella (Kennel Cough) – Recommended for social dogs who attend daycare, parks, or boarding.

🐱 Cats (Core Vaccines)

  • FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia) – Protects against severe respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses.

  • Rabies – Required by law and essential for both indoor and outdoor cats.

  • FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus) – Recommended especially for kittens and cats that go outdoors or live in multi-cat households.

Vaccine Schedule Basics

  • Puppies and kittensĀ begin a series of vaccines atĀ 6–8 weeks old, with boosters every few weeks until about 16–20 weeks.

  • Adult petsĀ needĀ annual or triannual boosters, depending on the vaccine type.

  • Ask your vet for a personalized vaccination plan based on your pet’s age, health, and lifestyle.

Our Promise

All pets adopted from CJ Rescue receive:
āœ” Core vaccines appropriate for their age
āœ” A vaccination record to take to your vet
āœ” Education on when and what follow-up vaccines are needed

Keep Your Pet (and Community) Safe

Vaccinating your pet is a simple act of love that protects them from suffering and prevents the spread of disease. Whether your pet stays indoors or loves outdoor adventures,Ā vaccines are essential to a long, healthy life.

šŸ“ Microchipping: A Small Chip with a Big Purpose

Every year, thousands of pets go missing—and far too many never make it back home. At CJ Rescue, we believe in giving pets every chance to stay safe and reunited with their families. That’s whyĀ microchipping is a key part of our adoption and pet care program.

What Is a Microchip?

AĀ microchipĀ is a tiny, electronic chip—about the size of a grain of rice—implanted just under your pet’s skin, typically between the shoulder blades. It contains aĀ unique ID numberĀ that is registered to your contact information.

šŸ’”Ā Important:Ā A microchip isĀ notĀ a GPS tracker. It won’t show your pet’s location, but itĀ willĀ help shelters and vets contact you if your pet is found.

Why Microchipping Matters

āœ… Permanent Identification
Unlike collars or tags, which can fall off or be removed, a microchip stays with your pet for life.

āœ… Increases Return-to-Home Rates
Microchipped dogs areĀ 2.5 timesĀ more likely to be reunited with their families. For cats, it's more thanĀ 20 times!

āœ… Safe and Simple
The procedure is quick, safe, and relatively painless—similar to a routine vaccination.

āœ… Affordable Protection
Microchipping is a one-time cost that provides lifelong peace of mind.

Lost Pet? Microchip = Home Again

If your lost pet is found and scanned by a shelter or vet, the microchip gives them a direct path to you—no posters, no guessing, no dead ends.

Help Keep Pets Home Where They Belong

At CJ Rescue, we’re proud to microchip every animal we adopt out—and we strongly encourage all pet owners to do the same. It’s a simple step that can make a life-changing difference.

Low-Cost Options

There are many places who offer microchipping at an affordable low cost. Here are some places that offer affordable microchipping.

  2. Arizona Humane Society
