Lost Your Pet?

Here's What to Do

Losing a pet is heartbreaking — but don't panic. Quick action and staying organized can greatly increase your chances of being reunited. Follow these steps as soon as you realize your pet is missing:

1. Search the Area Immediately

Check your home and neighborhood thoroughly. Call your pet’s name, bring a favorite toy or treat, and ask neighbors if they've seen anything.

2. Notify Local Shelters and Rescues

Contact nearby shelters, animal control, and rescue groups. Provide a clear description and photo of your pet, and ask to file a lost pet report.

Complete A Lost Animal Report

Complete a Lost Animal Report form online that provides detailed information about your pet to see if it matches an animal in MCACC’s shelters. A MCACC representative will respond to the submission within 24 hours to set up an appointment for you to visit the shelter if they suspect that there is a match between your description and a dog in their care.

  • Arizona Humane Society – 602.997.7585 Ext. 2082

  • MCACC – 602.372.4598. (9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)

  • Central/West Valley – 602.506.PETS (7387)

  • East Valley – 602.506.PETS (7387)

3. Create and Share Lost Pet Flyers

Make flyers with your pet’s photo, name, description, and your contact info. Post them around your neighborhood, local businesses, vet offices, and parks.

4. Post Online

Use social media and lost pet platforms such as:

  • Facebook (local lost and found pet groups)

  • Nextdoor

  • Craigslist (Lost & Found section)

  • PawBoost

  • Petco Love Lost

Include clear, recent photos and any distinguishing features.

5. Check Microchip Information

Make sure your pet’s microchip info is up to date. Contact the microchip company to mark your pet as lost.

6. Don’t Give Up

Pets are often found days or even weeks later. Keep checking shelters, updating posts, and following leads. Persistence is key.
